Frankly Friday

Today I had a crummy afternoon. I may as well write about it and get it off my chest. I have 2 teeth that need to be extracted. I don't know why...they aren't bothering me. But the 2 sets of Xrays show decay all around the root. Okay, I'm resolved that has to happen. I just don't want to be left with a gaping hole in my mouth. So I went to the Oral Surgeon who will be extracting them. He gave me bad news, really bad news then a little more to top it off. The extraction with be done under IV Sedation and sinee the teeth are on top they are right up next to my sinus cavity. I'll need a bone graft. The bad news: Cost $1400.oo. OK. Then the REALLY Bad news. He can do an implant to semi hide the hole left by the two missing teeth. One implant done under sedation....$2900.oo!! The rest of the bad news, is that the crown that screws onto the implant costs $1057.oo. Sigh.Nearly $5400.oo. Oh my god. I could get two sets of dentures for that much money. What kills me is how well I take care of my teeth. I brush them at least twice a day. I floss. I get cleanings every 6 months. And it seems like I'm always needing a crown, a filling or replacing a crown. Soon there shouldn't be anymore teeth to fix. LOL Then he'll start on the old ones again. The orthopedic surgeon has chopped 2 toes off. My feet are shot too. What is going to fall apart next. I 've already had everything taken out surgically that I don't HAVE to have. Oh wait, I can still donate a kidney.
My 58th birthday was July 29th. I had an extraordinary day. It was so great. Tom and the girls were around. Rich got me a beautiful cake and and Ipad. I love it. Tommy got me a beautiful house plant which I will probably kill. I will try hard not to. The other kids were busy but did call.
I am especially looking forward to the 18th of this month. It will be our 40th wedding anniversary! I am so proud we have made it to this milestone. Sure we had our shares of ups and downs, but we always managed to  pull through them. Nothing special planned. We talked about going to a Casino in OK. Depends on whether Tommy could make arrangements for his girls to get their Mom to help out if we leave for a day or 2. Otherwise we'll just go out to a nice restaurant to eat dinner. Doesn't matter. I'm happy just to be with Richard.
Well it is getting late. I feel better getting this off of my chest. Thanks for listening.

well, i have similar problems, and no dental insurance nor money to pay for it. same here with no pain, but the infection can cause problems even if the nerve has already died. the toxins can set up in your body and allow cancer or other diseases to attack your organs. i will have to wait till something really bad happens before i can do anything with my one tooth that is the problem. the nerve is already mostly dead, but it is still decayed. if i get to the point they have to do to me what you are going through, i will just have them all pulled and dentures made. i have 3 holes where teeth are missing, and a crown that i have to reapply constantly. so i sympathize with you. i am 58 as well. guess that is the magic age of falling apart lol. i still have my toes, but the neuropathy is getting worse, so who knows. just know that you are not alone lol. hang in there.

all total, I need about $20k with of work done to my teeth. sO i totally relate to this entry. Like you, I think about the lottery. dental work would be one of the first things I would take care of if i ever won. congrats on the anniversary. that is a big, big, deal!

Congrats on the Anniversary. That is a BIG deal. Johnny and I are praying he will make it to December 31. That will be our 39th Anniversary. Regarding teeth: I don't even let myself think of all that needs to be done on mine but will have too before too long. I've not lost toes, at least not yet, but like Regina, the neuropathy is getting worse.

No wonder you were feeling you had kind of a bad day. I have spent the summer seeing about my teeth. Like you I have one tooth that needs extracting, but it is a small molar on the bottom so hopefully there won't be a great big problem. Seems like no matter what we do teeth still go. Well, don't get too down, put off thinking about it until another day and another and gradually maybe you can come up with a solution that won't be as expensive.

I would get a second opinion from another surgeon before making any kind of decision.

I went to a new dentist and she's talking implants too I said no way crown those things. I have insurance but only covers so much. Sucks to get old. Happy happy on your anniversary it is a big deal.

I agree with Missie...I'd get a second maybe even third opinion. Meanwhile I'm sorry this is going on...something none of us need. Life is tough enough at times, without health issues. In case I'm at Bob's this weekend (where there's no internet) I'll tell you and Richard a happy anniversary now!

Would agree with above suggestion to shop around. It sounds incredibly expensive.
